Recovery questions was significantly altered after an update. This article is retained to provide information on past elements of RuneScape. |
With the update of Jagex Account Guardian, recovery questions became obsolete. Players may now set permanent recovery-like questions through the Jagex Account Guardian instead.
Recovery questions are a series of questions that only you know the answer to, so if somehow your password is stolen or lost, you can get your account back.
You should NOT tell your recovery questions to anyone. If someone asks for your recovery questions, you should report them under Rule 3: Password Scamming.
Try to avoid setting questions that have an obvious answer to them. For example, "What was the name of your first pet?". For people who know you, this would be quite obvious. Also, you are not allowed to set the same answer for all of the questions.
Reasons to set Recovery Questions
- Recovery questions are one of the only ways to recover your account if it is lost or stolen.
- Not setting recovery questions will allow any account thief which knows your previous passwords to easily change it again, by just entering the previous passwords, the system will allow this person to change your password.
- If you set recovery questions, you are told of the Stronghold of Security, a multi-levelled, dangerous, underground area with higher levelled creatures deeper into the stronghold.
- As some might be able to replace your recovery answers, make sure that you recover your account as fast as possible. You may never get your account back if you're too late.
