Motherland

The Motherland is the ancestral homeland of the sentient penguins. Its greatest city is known as Palingrad. At the time, it is inaccessible.

Little is known of the Motherland. It is known to be somewhere north of the Fremennik Province, perhaps somewhere in the largely unexplored Lunar Sea. Jagex have said that they will be updating the motherland and allowing players to go there some time soon.

In the quest Hunt for the Red Raktuber, Larry is taken to the motherland by the penguins.

Trivia

• The Motherland is most likely a reference to the Russian term for the Soviet Union, seeing that the Penguin quest series is modelled after the real-life Cold War and how spies on both sides were frequently paranoid about the other; it should be noted that the expression is heavily stereotyped and is allegedly used by many Russians. Palingrad is a reference to Stalingrad.
