Mobilising Armies/Conflict
Conflict is one of the scenarios of Mobilising Armies.
This is the standard scenario for the game, being the first to be played by all, and the "lowest levelled" scenario. No rank points are required to play on the Conflict battlefield. Four teams are placed on a battlefield and must kill each other off, one by one. This version is a "free-for-all". The activity duration is 30 minutes or until one team is successful in defeating all of their enemies. The winning player will receive 2 rank points while any other team who is not victorious, but lasted for over 4 minutes will receive 1 rank point. Zero rank points are received if a player does not last 4 minutes or does not issue at least 10 commands to their troops during the game. Players will also receive a certain amount of reward credit based on how much investment credit they wagered in the beginning of the game, how many squads they defeated in the battle, and how long they stayed in the game for.
The Conflict scenario has been criticised by many players as many teams choose to "camp" (or do not move, waiting until they are attacked) and can cause a round to drag out for the whole 30 minutes. Players attempting to attack "camping" teams usually end up losing in the long run. Some players feel that camping is against the spirit of the game even though a large majority of players end up camping.
Strategies
- Staying at the special territories enables your troops to hit up to double the damage.
- Generally, it is good strategy to use attack a unit or an army from behind or from the sides.
- Generally, it is better to not keep all your units converged in one spot unless it is in special terrain.
- Target teams with "light" squads instead of "heavy" squads as they have less hitpoints, defence, and attack power.
- Split your army into 2, use a mixture of light and heavy units against an enemy - making sure to find the special terrain so they can last longer, then use your other half to hit the enemy from behind or the side.
- Using light units attack the enemies and then fall back and then use your heavy units to attack the enemy. This is called luring, which can then be finished off by moving your light units around to the side or to the rear of the enemy.
- According to the Maxims of war one must "March divided and fight concentrated." Therefore, when marching your armies make broad moves with units far from each other until there is an attack or you choose to attack.
- A player may wish to have a mixed number of heavy forces camped on one special terrain area, therefore able to repel any attacks.
- Players may use light units to lure enemy units to an area where a larger number of the player's forces will be able to ambush and kill the enemy's squads.
Special Terrain
- A common strategy is to mass all ten units onto one square, also known as stacking. This makes your entire army harder to be annihilated because it forces the other army to click on different units instead of massing on a single unit.
- Another strategy would be to split up your units into three groups, one having 4 units within the group, and placing each group in a special terrain adjacent to the other groups. So if one group is attacked the others can help that group.
- One can use the Special Terrains on the beaches to their utmost advantage by using barricades inland so as to fight an easier 2 front battle, and a much easier target for a cannon (but only use the cannon under extreme circumstances).
Special Units
- Chompa - This special unit should be used to attack any "waiters." And can also be used to inflict damage on 2 the units converging in one spot, it is best to use this when there are more than 6 units fighting in a small area.
- Barricades - This should be used when fighting an army with more units, or a generally superior army than yours, using the barricades as a temporary shield. The best ways to use there are:
- Alongside luring 1 or more units, the barricade could be used to stop the rest of the opposing armies while your units or army is fighting the lured units.
- To be used as a safeguard when moving special terrains in hostile territory.
Beware: this is only temporary any aggressive enemy will just move around it
- Gliders - Gliders should be used as a way to weaken the enemy. To be used against units that are stronger against your own units, or to finish off any enemies trying to run away from your units.
- Cannon - Best used against any Waiters using the Flank formation. Or in unison with the barricades after a unit or more have been stuck and left immobile by the barricades.
- Distractor - Used best against a mass of enemies charging at you. Or in unison with barricades after a unit or more has been stuck and left immobile by the barricades. Also used to immobilise a waiter's units before attacking with your own units.
Counters for common strategies
Stacking
- Stacking can be countered by using these three special units:
- Chompa - used on or near the square to damage all the units within that square.
- Distractor - used within that square to distract enemies giving a wide window of opportunity for any army or combination of units/special units to kill anywhere from 2-3 units in the stack.
- Cannon - a well placed cannon where the army is at can damage all the units within that square.
- Stacking can also be countered by luring the opposing army to split apart. The most effective way to do this is to use a mixture of all three units, preferably light units, to attack or feign attack and then retreat to a safe spot while the rest of your army attack the units that have come to attack your bait units.
Luring
- When being lured, there are but two options, fight smarter than the enemy or run to a safehaven.
- To fight smarter, use a distractor or barricades to stall the enemy.
- To run, use a distractor on the enemies mass of units, and then use the barricades for any outlying units attacking.
Miscellaneous
- Squads that are exploring can come across healing potions that heal five Hitpoints; these can help heal squads after fighting off attacking squads.
- Lone squads are targeted often by all enemies, so group up, and go for the prize! Watch your squads closely!
- Players that do not do anything except retaliate against attacking squads during the entire game are known as Waiters. Using this strategy is not recommended, as defeating enemy squads will increase your reward credit, even if you lose.
- Some players have resorted to "suicide" games, trying to get the 1 rank point rewarded for surviving 4 minutes, as opposed to playing for up to 30 minutes and maybe getting 2 points.
- There are patches of special terrain in this map. If you place a squad on that area, they will deal extra damage.
