Metal dragons
Metal dragons are dragons whose hides are metallic. They are strong and have extremely high defence to melee and ranged attacks. Like metal armour however, they are relatively weak to magic attacks. Instead of Dragonhide, the metal dragons drop bars of their type of metal. Metal dragons are unlike Chromatic dragons in that their fire breath is a ranged attack. Because of this, they will not move into melee range, allowing players to fully protect themselves from Dragonfire with a combination of antifire potions and Anti-dragon shield or Super antifire potions and stay out of melee range, minimising how much they are hit, and in most cases completely immunizing themselves from damage. All metal dragons except Bronze dragons have a chance of dropping the Draconic visage, and all metal dragons except Mithril dragons can drop Dragon platelegs and Dragon plateskirts.
Types
Image | Type | Level | Attacks | Locations | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bronze dragon | 131 | Melee, dragonfire (long-ranged) | Brimhaven Dungeon, Chaos Tunnels | This is the lowest level metal dragon, however killing it is difficult since the dragons are never by themselves. They are found with Wild dogs and a Black demon in their Brimhaven Location and with Earth warriors and Fire Elementals in their Chaos tunnel location. Because of the annoyance of killing them, their lower drop rate for Dragon platelegs and plateskirts compared to other metal dragons, and their inability to drop the Draconic visage, they are not often killed for anything other than Slayer tasks and elite clue scrolls. | |
Iron dragon | 189 | Melee, dragonfire (long-ranged) | Brimhaven Dungeon, Ghorrock, Kuradal's Dungeon | Iron dragons are among the most commonly killed metal dragon because they are assigned in fairly large numbers by many slayer masters. Their defence is also low enough that they can be meleed with little problem (particularly if their weakness to stab attacks is exploited), and their drops are consistently good. The dragons in Ghorrock are very far from a bank and as such are not recommended for players who cannot cast Ghorrock Teleport or Ice Plateau Teleport. The dragons in Kuradal's Dungeon can only be killed by players who currently have an Iron dragon slayer task from Kuradal. | |
Steel dragon | 246 | Melee, dragonfire (long-ranged) | Brimhaven Dungeon, Ghorrock, Kuradal's Dungeon | Steel dragons are found in the same locations as Iron dragons, but are killed less frequently due to their much higher defence, particularly against slashing weapons, and the fact that they are assigned in much fewer numbers by slayer masters. | |
Mithril dragon | 304 | Melee, magic, ranged, dragonfire (long-ranged) | Second level of the Ancient Cavern | Mithril dragons are the highest level dragon of any type and are extremely dangerous. They are the only type of dragon apart from the King black dragon and Queen Black Dragon where it is impossible to negate all damage, due to their multiple attack styles. They are also the only metal dragon that does not drop Dragon platelegs or Dragon plateskirts, though they are also the only dragon to drop Dragon full helms. |
Trivia
- According to Mod Mark in the 17 February 2012 Q&A, adamant dragons are planned to be added in the future.<ref>Mod Mark. "Q&A Answers 17th Feb". 17 February 2012. General Forums. *</ref>.
- It is possible that Metal Dragons are aligned to, and hence possibly created by, Zaros, as both Iron Dragons and Steel Dragons can be found guarding the grounds of Ghorrock Fortress, an ancient Zarosian fortress. This may be a mere coincidence, however, as no other Zarosian area has metal dragons around it.
