King Lathas Ardignas is the current king of East Ardougne, the capital of Kandarin. Son of King Ulthas, he is brother with King Tyras, the ruler of West Ardougne which has been lately submerged by an unknown Plague. He claims to be the one to have build the walls surrounding the infested city whilst his brother fled to the West over in Tirannwn, the land of the Elves. King Lathas plays a large role in the Biohazard, Underground Pass and Regicide quests.
History
Early Years
After King Ulthas died in the year 139, Ardougne was left his two sons, Lathas and Tyras. In line with the king's decree, the city was divided into East and West Ardougne. This division did nothing to quell the rivalry between the brothers, however.
East Ardougne bloomed in terms of politics and culture and quickly became the most influential half. During that time, King Tyras explored further to the West and discovered the Underground Pass as well Tirannwn. As a consequence, he was largely an absentee king. Tyras took his most elite soldiers and left to explore the Elven land, leaving West Ardougne to his incompetenent regent, Bravek.
Plague City and Biohazard
A plague then struck West Ardougne and Lathas decided to take care of the infestations whilst his brother was away. He hired the help of the Mourners and reinforced the defenses to keep the sick inhabitants secluded from the rest of Gielinor. However, following the quests Plague City and Biohazard, it is revealed the there is no plague and everything is staged for the sole purpose of keeping the citizens of West Ardougne away from King Tyras, preparing himself to attack Ardougne.
Underground Pass and Regicide
King Lathas then asks the player to clear out the Underground Pass, a tunnel passing through the Arandar Mountains. A disillusioned man under the name of Iban has made the underground passage his realm of torture, thus blocking the access between Tirannwn and Kandarin.
After the death of the Lord Iban, a messenger sent by King Lathas initiates the Regicide Quest where the player is asked to assassinate King Tyras, ending his reign of terror on West Ardougne. He then asks to meet his elven contact, Lord Iorwerth, and plan the assassination. As soon as the player kills Tyras, Lord Iorwerth gives the player a magically sealed letter for Lathas. However, before the player reaches the king, Arianwyn, a so-far unknown elf, appears and breaks the message's seal, encouraging the player to read it. It is then revealed that King Lathas was the antagonist the whole time, working with Iorwerth's evil elves. They are trying to resurrect a "dark lord" and Lathas desires to take over Camelot, but the elves are at the same time using him to dig under West Ardougne (explaining the quarantine) to find the Temple of Light.
Aftermath
Little is said of King Lathas after the Regicide quest as the series stray away from the kings, leaving place to the mourners and their discovery of the fabled temple.
