A chaos shield is an elemental shield that can be made after completion of Elemental Workshop IV. Forging the shield requires 42 Smithing, and it may be made with one chaos bar and a hammer on the first floor of the elemental workshop dungeon, provided the player has a shabby book in their inventory. It requires 50 Defence to wear.
Along with providing a moderate Magic defence bonus and a relatively high summoning defence, this shield also offers protection from the icy breath of Skeletal wyverns in the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon. It has the third highest magic defence bonus in the game (sharing the same defence bonus as a Dragonfire shield, uncharged or charged, Tome of Frost and Void knight deflector), outclassed by the Eagle-eye kiteshield, (+25) Spectral spirit shield (+30), and the Sacred clay shield (magic) (+30) and Mages' book (+15).
