Charm sprites are fast flying creatures that can be hunted with a Yaktwee stick and Sprite lure.

There are 3 different versions of Charm Sprites:

When you reveal the charm sprites, one, two, or three will appear. A Gleaelg will always appear first; if two charm sprites appear, then it will be both a Gleaelg and Tranart, and if three appear, it will be one of each charm sprite. It is not hard to catch all three if you have quick reactions.

Having a high hunter level will increase success rates. On the 100th, 1,000th and 10,000th capture of each type of sprite you will be notified in the chatbox and it will appear on your adventurer's log(counts separate for each type of sprite). There is no reward for catching 100, 1,000 or 10,000 sprites of one kind.

Hunter level

Requires level 72 in the hunter skill to be caught (NO boosts allowed).

Hunting the creatures

To start hunting the sprites, you must first buy a Yaktwee stick and Sprite lure from Yaktwee Swinmari Cianta who sells both items for 2000 coins each.

In the whole area around the Cracked dolmen are Neverberry bushes spread out, which contain the critters. You have to target a bush that is shaking (Only moving bushes contain the sprites). The colour of the bush doesn't matter, it simply indicates how long it has left to live. After throwing a spirit lure next to the bush, "zap" it with your Yaktwee stick. Now at least one charm sprite will appear, proceed to then zap them all (You can start zapping a new bush as soon as your lure vanishes from the ground, and for faster xp it is recommended to zap a second bush while still catching the sprites).

A player lures a charm sprite.

After a few times a bush has been hunted, it will start to degrade, until it eventually dies and then gives a newly-grown bush. The order in which the bush decays is:

  • Normal (Neverberry bush)
  • Neverberry bush (ravaged)
  • Neverberry bush (dying)
  • Neverberry bush (withered)
  • Neverberry bush (dead)

As long as you start to zap your lure (and the animation has started) before the bush stops shaking and degrades, it will still release sprites when the lure explodes.

The fastest way to get here is by using the spirit tree teleport to the tree gnome stronghold and walking south out the doors then southwest to the hunter area.

A player targets a Gleaelg and obtains a gold charm slice.

Clicking combine will combine your slices and create charms in one click. 10 slices of the same type are needed to form 1 charm.

Over time the slices will become balanced in numbers (example 200 green, 200 gold, 200 crimson, 200 blue), which means that each type of slice has the same rarity.

The relatively high rate of blue charms from this activity makes it possibly a good training activity, however, the low rate of charms overall (1/10th of sprites caught) makes this method not very commonly used. A better method might be catching spirit implings in puro-puro at level 54 hunter.

Trivia

  • Each of the charm sprites' names is a palindrome.
  • Strange rocks are obtainable through charm sprite hunting.
  • If you relog while having a spirit lure on the floor, when you log in it will appear back in your inventory.
  • At the day of the release, when you targeted a bush, destroyed your spirit lure bag and then took the spirit lure from the ground, you would regain your spirit lure, just like if you didn't destroy the bag. This has not been fixed, but causes no harm.
  • It is possible to carry more than one spirit lure at a time, but it is not possible to have two spirit lures on the ground.
  • The Sprites look like a miniature version of the Tri-pods from the film "War of the Worlds".
  • The Sprites appear as yellow dots on your minimap. This can be used to keep track of them when you get multiple.
  • It is possible for the sprites to fly away becoming uncatchable.
