Nail beasts are encountered on all three paths of the Temple Trekking activity. The combat levels of Nail beasts are based on the difficulty of the event chosen: they are level 69 on easy, level 98 on medium, and level 141 on hard. The number of Nail beasts that players encounter depends on the difficulty of the path being taken and can range from anywhere between two level 69 beasts (easy) and six level 141 beasts (hard). On an easy event, players will see between two and three Nail beasts, on a medium event they will see between three and four, and on a hard event anywhere between four and six will appear.

They are not very strong, but they hit very fast with melee (it hits 3 times every attack), so players should keep an eye on the follower's life points. With a recent update it is important to note that if a player attacks each Nail beast at least once, it can help avoid their fo will result in dealing very high damage (+600). One especially effective tactic, if an Abyssal whip vine is available, is to run around, attacking each Nail beast once (targeting any that are attcking your follower first) to attract their attention, then moving to a location that bunches them up. Once in this position, attack one of them with the Abyssal whip vine's special attack, and all the Nail Beasts will suffer continuing attacks and damage as long as the special attack is active. This often kills them outright, and those that are not killed are left with severely reduced life points.

Nail beasts drop the tertiary ingredient for the Summoning familiar Talon beast, which yields the highest experience of all pouches. They also drop Nail beast nails, which are used as a secondary ingredient for making Sanfew serum, and possibly a long or curved bone. However, this event usually takes up a large number of inventory space (the charms and nails are unstackable), meaning if this event is not the last one, it is not recommended to pick all their drops up. If one is fighting Nail beasts with the aim of receiving these drops, it is advised to use a high levelled follower (such as level 79 Zachory Bragg or level 80 Dean Vellio) to "scry" for the event. The followers predictions will always be the following for Nail beasts:

  • Easy event: "I can see strange dark shapes slinking around in the myre ahead. Tread carefully if we go that way."
  • Medium event: "Be careful if we go this way. I can see some things sneaking around."
  • Hard event: "Nail beasts! You don't see them much these days. We'll be in for a big fight if we choose to go this way!"

When doing the wishlist for Fur 'n' Seek, they may sometimes drop Sabre-like teeth and Long, sharp claws.

Note: The triple charm reward effect from the Familiarisation Distraction does not affect the amount of talon beast charms dropped.

Trivia

  • Prayer will not block the second or third attacks if the first attack hits the player.
  • According to the "Hard event" dialouge spoken by your follower, it is possible that Nail beasts are endangered species.
