'''Yew seeds''' are the second highest-level tree seed, after [[magic seed]]s. Players must have level 60 [[Farming]] to plant it. Boosts are allowed, but the [[assist system]] cannot be used to plant the seed in a pot nor the seedling in the tree patch.

A Yew seed, when planted in a Tree patch, may grow into a [[Yew tree]]. Planting the seed gives 81 experience and checking the health gives 7069.9, for a total of 7150.9 experience per seed (unless the tree dies while growing).

A fully grown yew tree can be cut to yield [[yew logs]] and grant [[Woodcutting]] experience. After it is cut down, it will eventually regrow, however it is also possible to use a [[spade]] on the cut tree roots, yielding the player some [[yew roots]] and make the tree patch available for planting a new tree. With level 80 [[Summoning]], a [[hydra]] may be used to instantly regrow cut down trees in tree farming patches.

Yew seeds can be bought from the [[Vinesweeper]] [[minigame]] for 29,000 points per seed by trading with [[Mrs. Winkin]], though this method of obtaining a yew seed is not advised, as checking the health of the yew tree at full growth will yield much less experience (less than a quarter) than if one was to trade 29000 points for the experience reward.

They may also be obtained from a [[bird's nest]] that has dropped from a tree, by exchange the drops from a [[giant mole]] under [[Falador Park]], or as a drop from a [[Strykewyrm]] and [[Kree'arra]]. It is also possible to obtain this seed from the [[Managing Miscellania]] rewards at [[Miscellania]] (after [[Throne of Miscellania]]) and [[Etceteria]] (after [[Royal Trouble]]).

The farmer will tend a player's yew tree for 10 [[cactus spine]]s. However, for Yew trees, it is much cheaper on average to just use [[supercompost]] and not pay the farmers. About 1/8 yew saplings will die. In a test of 257 yew trees with no farmer payments, only 36 have died.

Planting a Yew seed is also a part of a requirement in the [[Falador Tasks]], which is to cut down a yew tree you grew in the Falador Park.
