Attacks with this special effect have a chance of hitting through an opponent's defence and prayer, allowing for frequent, consecutively unignored hits against high defence monsters. Verac's flail is also a fairly popular choice for killing [[waterfiend]]s and the [[Kalphite Queen]]. Although its degrading effect can make it fairly expensive to maintain, it has a higher crush attack bonus than the [[Saradomin sword]] or the [[Zamorakian spear]]. It also has a higher prayer bonus than the two mentioned weapons, prolonging any prayer usage if players wishes to use them. It is often considered a cheaper version of the [[abyssal whip]], as it has the same crush bonus as the whip has in slash, making it effective against plate armour, and boasts at an average 1/3rd of the whip's price. However, if a player has a [[dragon defender]], the whip becomes the better option as its bonuses can be increased, unlike the flail, which is two-handed. The whip also has a faster attack speed and a higher strength bonus.<br />
