Vampyre dust is dropped by vampyres and is used for summoning vampyre bats. To kill vampyres, players are encouraged to wear a Holy symbol, since it greatly weakens vampyres; some players choose higher-powered amulets instead.

One excellent place to obtain vampyre dust is by killing vampyres east of the Abandoned Mine. Players with access to the bank in Burgh de Rott can bank quickly; partial completing of In Aid of the Myreque is required.

Vampyre dust is also a possible loot from spirit implings.

Some players with combat level 105 or higher prefer the Haunted Woods, since the leeches there are not aggressive to players at these levels. However, the vampyres are more spread out in the woods, so more running is involved in hunting them there. The Haunted Woods also has a moderately close bank via Port Phasmatys' western entrance and can be accessed via the Fairy ring network. Partial completion of Ghosts Ahoy is required for access to Port Phasmatys.

Vampyres can also be found in various parts of the God Wars Dungeon, but the remoteness and requirements for this dungeon make it less than ideal for dust seekers.

The price of vampyre dust has fluctuated greatly over time. Before the advent of summoning, vampyre dust had no use and little value. The price shot up over 1,000 coins once summoning was released because of its use, at summoning level 31, to summon Vampyre Bats. When the Soul Wars minigame, was released, the price collapsed to 300 coins. Vampyre dust is a possible gamble reward in the game, which lead to increased supplies being put on the market.

Players may receive vampyre dust from opening a box of summoning ingredients, a possible reward from the Familiarisation Distraction and Diversion.
Trivia
*At the end of the climactic scene in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Count Vlad Dracula III turns to dust after he is staked through the heart and brought down by a crucifix.
*Vampyre dust is one of the different items that the Rowdy dwarf may ask you for in Forgettable Tale of a Drunken Dwarf.
*66 noted vampyre dust is one of the possible rewards from the Familiarisation Distraction and Diversion.
