The '''Untainted''' are a group of [[Guthix]]ian barbarian lepers who guard the last known stores of [[rune essence]]. They live in the [[Mountain of Fire]] in the [[Wilderness]].

The Untainted are all strong warriors. They are all very old, and include barbarians famed for their roles in the sacking of the [[Wizards' Tower]] during the Barbarians' war against the wizards.

In 164, two barbarians and a wizard came from [[Misthalin]] in order to get some rune essence. One of the [[Arisha|barbarians]] had been poisoned, so the Untainted treated her according to their laws of hospitality. However, the other barbarian killed one of the Untainted and stole the rune essence and ran, so the Untainted gave chase, not realising that the [[Castimir|wizard]] who accompanied the outsiders was among their numbers. Following fights with a [[Kinshra]] embassy en route to [[Varrock]], they attempted to trap the Kinshra and outsiders in a labyrinth. Rather than fight, the barbarians gave themselves up and were taken to [[Rellekka]] to face punishment for the murder and theft.
