The '''Sling''' is a [[two-handed]] [[Ranged]] weapon dropped by very low level NPCs. The sling has replaced the [[crossbow]] as the ''weakest'' ranged weapon in Runescape. It requires 1 Ranged to equip and does not require ammunition of any kind, which makes it a simple Ranged training tool for lower levels. The sling has an extremely short attack range.

When a player with a [[Ranged]] level of 5 or greater uses this weapon, they will get a message saying that using the sling is not recommended at the player's Ranged level, and should move on to stronger equipment. However, you are still able to use this weapon. The price of this weapon rapidly rose over 7000%, then plummeted from the highest raised price list to the lowest dropped price list. The sling cannot be used in PvP.

You can only obtain 5 sling drops per day, but there is not a current limit to how many slings can be bought and sold every day. [[Kayle's sling]], obtained during [[The Blood Pact]] quest, has slightly better stats than a normal sling, so it is recommended that players use Kayle's sling instead.

When a player's Ranged level increases to level 5 (or using a few times while already having at least level 5), equipping the Sling will result in a message stating that at this ranged level, it would be better to use bows and arrows. It also directs you to the advisory icon in the corner of the screen. After clicking through the first message, there are no future messages about the sling not being recommended for the Ranged level.
