The '''Shilo Village mining site''' is one of only three places at which players can find [[Gem rock]]s; the other places being the [[Lunar Isle mine]], and the Al Kharid mine resource dungeon. To get access to this mine, you'll have to complete the quest [[Shilo Village]]. It is located northwest of [[Shilo Village]], in [[Karamja|Karamja,]] and is a short distance from the bank. The gem rocks will give one random gem when mined, either a [[Opal]], [[Jade (gem)|Jade]], [[Red topaz|Red Topaz]], [[Sapphire]], [[Emerald]], [[Ruby]], or [[Diamond]]. You'll get the gems Uncut, which can be nice for people who like to train some extra [[Crafting]]. There are no monsters or any other rocks at the mine. It is also possible for a [[Shooting Star]] to land at the surface gem mine.

More than half of the time, players will get an Opal, Jade, or Red Topaz, which are not particularly good for moneymaking. Players may wish to cut these gems into [[Gem bolt tips|Bolt tips]] for extra [[Crafting]] and [[Fletching]] experience, banking only when they have an inventory full of gems as valuable or more than that of sapphires.

Players who have completed the [[Karamja Diary]] may use their [[Karamja gloves 3]] to teleport directly to the gem mine for free an unlimited number of times. Furthermore, they will get access to the underground portion of the Gem mine, which has an additional 8 Gem rocks. This is very advantageous because players who have not done the Karamja Diary cannot access the mine, leading to less competition for the gems.<br />

If wearing the ring of wealth, once it shines brightly then you will mine two gems from one rock instead of the usual one gem.

==Trivia==
*The rocks appear to only contain [[Uncut_dragonstone|purple gems (dragonstone)]], but they can't be mined from a gem rock.
