The Seaweed net was released on 9 June 2009 and enabled an alternative method of collecting seaweed with up to 10 seaweed per net, therefore allowing a player to collect for much longer before needing to bank. Making the net requires a Crafting level of 52, and involves using 5 flax with a loom to create an unfinished seaweed net, then adding a bronze wire to complete the net. Crafting the nets only gives experience after adding the wire, which gives 83 xp.

Seaweed nets can break at any time, and once broken they disappear. When the seaweed nets break, no seaweed is lost. Instead, it either ends up in the inventory or on the ground and can be put into another net. A player can have more than one net in his or her inventory at a time, so it is possible to collect 271 seaweed before banking, though this is unlikely as the nets occasionally break. (Empirically, approximately 15% of nets break while filling them.) Players cannot use 28 nets, because one free space is needed to pick up the seaweed. However, If you bring all seaweed nets and then drop one and pick it up again after collecting seaweed for the next net to fill and then repeating, it is possible to use 28. Also, all players need to do is click on the seaweed on the ground; it then goes directly into the net without showing up in the player's inventory. A trick is to bring a beast of burden such as a spirit terrorbird or a war tortoise, and have them carry back-up seaweed nets so that when one in a player's inventory breaks, he or she can get a new one without banking.

Full Seaweed nets are not tradeable, therefore Beast of burden familiars are not able to hold filled seaweed nets. However, imp-in-a-box can transport them to the bank.

Function
*When carried in inventory, if a player picks up seaweed, it automatically goes into the net. The same does not hold true when seaweed is caught through Fishing, players must left click the net to fill it.

*It is a good idea to carry multiple nets because, as mentioned above, they can break at any time.

*To fill an Empty seaweed net manually, players can left-click it to "auto-fill" the net, similar to a vegetable sack. However, unlike vegetable sacks, full seaweed nets can be emptied by left-clicking the net.

Note: Left-clicking partially-filled bags, with no seaweed in inventory, will display the message "You have no seaweed with which to fill the net".
