The '''Santa hat''' is a tradeable [[discontinued item]]. Santa hats appeared randomly on the ground all over ''[[RuneScape]]'' on 25 December 2002. During this time, players could pick up as many as they wanted. They are a purely cosmetic item, offering no stat bonuses to the wearer.

Although [[Jagex]] described the hats as "just a bit of fun" at the time, they have since become an expensive and much-coveted item amongst players.

Any player may wear a Santa hat. They do not provide any bonuses in the main game, but did give a +3 [[Magic]] bonus in ''[[RuneScape Classic]]''.

The news post announcing their release was titled "Merry Christmas" and read:

''"Merry christmas from the Jagex team. We're dropping some santa hats today at random intervals in random places. They're just a bit of fun though, so please don't be too upset if you can't find one. If you manage to get more than one then please consider giving them to your friends as christmas presents. Of course you can sell them but that's not really the spirit of christmas :-)"''

*[[Salty Claws]] wore a Santa hat during the [[2010 Christmas Event]]. However, the one he wore is much smaller on your head. During the time of this event, the [[Dungeoneering hood|hood]] of the [[Dungeoneering cape]] displayed next to [[Thok]] was replaced with a Santa hat.
