A '''Rune warhammer''' is the third strongest type of [[warhammer]] in the game, better than the [[adamant warhammer]] but weaker than [[Torag's hammers]] and [[Statius's warhammer]]. Like all Rune weapons, it requires 40 [[Attack]] to wield. At one point, it was the best warhammer available. It is dropped by [[trolls]] and rarely by [[Warped Tortoise]]s and [[Magpie Impling]]s. It is also a rare object in [[F2P|free]] [[server|worlds]], because it can only be originally obtained from a [[player]] with level 94 [[Smithing]]. Players can make a rune warhammer with the Smithing skill at level 94 using 3 [[Rune bar]]s, giving the player 225 Smithing [[experience]].

Though it is uncommon for players to use it as a weapon, it is used in certain Level 3 [[clue scroll]]s.

In F2P it is debatable whether if this weapon would be effective in [[player killing]] or not. While it does have the best accuracy against full rune of every rune item in the game due to its crush bonus (even more accurate than the [[Rune 2h sword]] if set on Pound), the slow speed and low strength bonus means the KO ability is small, so foes wearing plate armour will be greatly damaged but may run away causing you to lose a kill. Arguably, however, faster weapons such as the [[rune scimitar]] are too unreliable for hitting often enough against armour, so the warhammer is a better choice. It can be noted however that as long as extremely powerful hits aren't needed, the rune warhammer has the ability to serve as a very accurate method of knocking out players in full armour, provided their hitpoints are in reach of the warhammer's average hit.
