A Ruby harvest is a butterfly that players can capture with the Hunter skill at level 15 or above, granting 24 Hunter experience.

Players can find ruby harvests at the Piscatoris Hunter area just south of the Piscatoris Fishing Colony (fairy ring code A-K-Q). They must wield a butterfly net and have at least one butterfly jar in their inventory to catch them (one jar is needed for each butterfly they wish to keep). All of these items are available for purchase in Hunter stores, an example being the shop in Yanille.

With level 80 Hunter and 75 Agility, the player can catch ruby harvests with their bare hands. It may take several attempts to catch one, and the player will follow the butterfly with a jumping animation until it is caught. Doing this gives 300 Hunter experience and 50 Agility experience. However, the player will release the butterfly after it is caught, so this means that the butterfly cannot be kept.

A good technique to capture them is to click one to begin hunting, then right clicking another. This way, you already have your next target without having to search, allowing you to hunt faster. Also, since butterflies respawn very quickly, another method is to camp a spot that spawns a butterfly with a small wander radius. This minimises the time spent running around.

A common strategy is to set up some bird snares while hunting ruby harvests, increasing the maximum exp gain a player may get.

Catching with a net and jars is currently a great, fast but uncommon way to make money. However, the popularity of this method has grown due to the price rise caused by this being made a secondary ingredient for the summoning familiar, Forge regent.

After catching a ruby harvest, players can use it on another player in a multicombat area to increase the other player's Attack level.

Pay-to-Play players can catch ruby harvest butterflies and sell the Ruby harvest (item) and make around 30k per full inventory. A quick way for those without access of fairy rings to get to the Piscatoris Hunter area is to teleport to the Taverley, or Burthorpe lodestone and ask for a recommendation from the Hunter expert, Ayleth Beaststalker, called "Catch a Ruby Harvest Butterfly", and teleport to the location for limited times. You may also buy butterfly jars from her before teleporting.
