'''Red topaz''' is a type of semi-precious gem. It can be either obtained using the [[Mining]] skill from [[Shilo Village]]'s gem rocks, the gem rocks in the Lunar Isle essence mine, a random gem rock during the [[Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup]] [[activity]], from panning at the [[Digsite]] near the [[River Salve]], a possible reward from the [[Gnome Restaurant]] activity, a possible find from Mobilising Armies, a possible loot from [[Dorgesh-Kaan Chests]], or buying it off another player.

Red topaz can be cut with a [[chisel]] by a player with 16 [[Crafting]] although there is a high chance that the player will accidentally crush it into [[crushed gem]]. Successfully cutting a red topaz grants to player 25 Crafting [[experience]], but if they crush the gem they will receive only 6.3 Crafting experience.

At level 60-61 crafting there is about 31% chance that the red topaz will be accidentally crushed (in a test, 350 out of 1306 were crushed at level 60-61 crafting).

At level 84 crafting there is roughly a 10-11% chance that the red topaz will be accidentally crushed (in a test, 260 out of 2000 were crushed at level 84 crafting).

Following another small test of 100 uncut red topazs with a Crafting of 92 only '''5%''' were crushed. Further testing is needed.

Red topaz is not used in the creation of jewellery, but can be cut into [[red topaz bolt tips]] for use in creating [[red topaz bolts]].

Cut red topaz may be sold to Gabooty's Tai Bwo Wannai Cooperative for 60 [[Trading sticks]], uncut may be sold for 12.

Red topaz exists in ''[[RuneScape Classic]]'', it is also used to create a [[Red topaz machete]], which fulfills a medium [[Karamja Tasks|Karamja Task]].
