They are [[elf|elves]] of the [[Prifddinas Death Guard]] in disguise, and are working with [[King Lathas]]. They were sent by [[Lord Iorwerth]] to help Lathas keep up the appearance that there was a plague in West Ardougne, which there isn't. In reality, there is no plague and those who were "afflicted" by it were actually poisoned by the Mourners so they could be taken away and used as slaves to dig for the [[Temple of Light]] underneath West Ardougne, which Iorwerth planned to use to revive the Dark Lord. Their name comes from the fact that since the bodies of people "afflicted by the plague" are still "contagious" they are the only ones who attend the funerals of the "diseased". [[Gwir]] calls them "dark elves in disguise".<br />
