The '''Invasion of Avarrocka''' is an unnofficial term referring to the [[undead]] invasion of [[Avarrocka]] that took place in roughly 730 of the [[Fourth Age]]. The invasion was led by [[Zemouregal]], a [[Mahjarrat]] who sought to claim the [[Shield of Arrav]] and eliminate the emerging nation of [[Misthalin]]. It is described in detail in [[The Legend of Arrav, Part IV]], a story found on the official [[RuneScape]] website.

The Invasion of Avarrocka had evidently been planned by Zemouregal for decades. Between the Years 710 and 720, Zemouregal visited [[Arrav]] multiple times during his sleep, telling him of his plans to destroy the city. However, it was not until roughly 730 that Zemouregal travelled from [[The North]] and launched his attack with an army that consisted wholly of re-animated corpses recovered from the [[Wilderness]].

Avarrocka prepared by fortifying the city for one night, with the assistance of [[Imcando Dwarves]] sent from [[Ice Mountain]]. Arrav helped to arm the city's residents, as well as warriors from neighboring settlements. However, Zemouregal entered the city with relative ease, using his army's huge numbers to his advantage. Furthermore, Zemouregal used his magical abilities to launch deadly attacks from the sky, as well as re-animate those slain by his hordes.

Arrav eventually confronted Zemouregal directly outside Avarrocka's borders. Knowing he could not defeat Zemouregal, Arrav used the abilities of his otherworldy shield recovered from the Imcando Dwarves to destroy the horde invading the city. This left him open to Zemouregal's attacks, however, and he was slain in the process.

More than 1,000 years later, Zemouregal launched a second attack on Varrock, this time with a re-animated Arrav as his commander. The [[Battle of Varrock Castle]] also ended in Zemouregal's defeat, although he, [[Sharathteerk]], and Arrav all left for The North unscathed.
