'''Gunthor the Brave''' was a level 29 [[barbarian]] who lived in [[Barbarian Village]]. He was located in the [[Long Hall]] in the northern part of the village. He was stated to be a mighty warrior and a chieftain of the barbarians. Some players considered him a minor [[boss]], which would have made him the second weakest boss in ''RuneScape'', the weakest being [[Dragith Nurn]]. On [[21 September]] 2010, he was removed from the game and replaced with [[Chieftain Gunthor]]. [[Haakon the Champion]] replaced him as the new attackable boss of Barbarian Village.

==Fighting strategy==
[[Player]]s could either fight him with [[melee]] [[combat]], [[Ranged]], or [[Magic]]. Like all barbarians from Barbarian Village (except for [[Litara]] and [[Peksa]]), if a [[player]] talked to Gunthor, the player would be attacked.

[[Player]]s who fought him with [[melee]] generally only wanted to fight Gunthor when they had a [[Defence]] level of at least 20 (as he could hit often and deal 30 or 40 life points), as well as a [[weapon]] better than [[iron]]. Players who attacked him using [[Ranged]] or [[Magic]] could do so safely from behind the tables or stools. He was weak to [[Magic]] and [[Ranged]].

Gunthor the Brave was the highest level barbarian in Barbarian Village.

==Tips==

* Players can grab free [[cooked meat]] and [[beer]] from the tables. They respawn about every minute. This occasionally saved the lives of lower levelled players.
* Low levels could usually manage to kill Gunthor, however, he should still not have been underestimated. If a player just brought decent [[food]], [[weapons]] and [[armour]], they could kill him easily, but it would have taken time.
* Players with [[Cooking]] levels high enough to cook [[trout]], [[pike]], or [[salmon]] can sometimes get these fish for free along the river near [[Barbarian Village]]. Players sometimes do power [[Fishing]] there, dropping their catches. The fish can be cooked at the perpetual fire right in the Long Hall that Gunthor the Brave inhabited
* If players accidentally clicked the "Talk-to" option on him but did not want to fight him, they could just click somewhere else on the map to avoid the battle. Gunthor would only engage when the player had finished the conversation.

==Trivia==
*Back in [[RuneScape Classic]] Gunthor the Brave was a lot bigger than normal [[barbarian]]s, the size of a [[hill giant]] today. This was later changed to a smaller size, but the NPC that replaces him, [[Haakon the Champion]], is also bigger than a regular human.
*His sword strangely made a crushing noise like that of a pickaxe or battleaxe, as opposed to a two-handed sword.
*He became [[Chieftain Gunthor]] and [[Haakon the Champion]] took his place as attackable monster on [[21 September]] [[2010]].
