The '''Granite maul''' is a [[granite]] weapon that requires level 50 [[Strength]] and level 50 [[Attack]] to wield. It is 2-handed, so no shield can be wielded at the same time as it is being used. It is dropped by [[Gargoyle]]s, [[Slayer]] monsters that require 75 Slayer to kill. It is mostly used for its powerful special attack which allows a player to hit 3 times in the combat reel and hit extremely high amounts.

The granite maul has a special attack, ''Quick Smash'', which causes the player to attack instantly, even if they just attacked. It uses 50% of a player's [[special attack]] bar. This allows the granite maul to execute 3 potentially very damaging hits in extremely short succession if a player has good timing. Under perfect conditions, It is possible to hit 480+ three times, making it often used as a [[player killing]] weapon. This weapon '''cannot''' be made using the [[Smithing]] [[skill]].

In early March [[2007]], a [[glitch]] that allowed infinite iterations of its [[Special_attacks#Granite_maul|Special attack]] was discovered and abused by many players. The glitch was later fixed by Jagex, and the abusers received bans of varying lengths.

When the granite maul was first released, players were allowed to "pre-set" a Special attack by clicking on the special bar as a npc died or other similar fashion, then recharging the special bar. Using this "glitch," players would then be able to use two consecutive special attacks on top of one another, allowing potentially 4 devastating hits instead of the now 3. At that time, granite mauls were one of the most, if not most, popular form of "3-hitting" enemies in the wilderness (as opposed to, say, a [[Dragon dagger]].) Maul pures were thus born, with 50 attack, 1 defence, and extremely high strength. However, this glitch was patched soon thereafter, leaving many players disappointed.

This was a popular [[scamming]] item because it resembles the [[Rock hammer]].

When PvP worlds were released, the price of the granite maul went up from around 50,000 to 150,000 coins. Again, when bounty worlds were released, the granite maul went up again, to 250,000 coins.

==Trivia==
*If you select to use the special attack before engaging in combat you will receive the message "Warning: Since the maul's special is an instant attack, it will be wasted when used on a first strike."
*If you use the granite maul's [[Special Attack]] following the normal attack, the two weapon sounds seem to blend together.
*The granite maul and [[granite mace]] can hit up to 4 times quickly by proper timing. For a high damaging hit, wait two seconds after your regular swing and click the special bar.
*The [[Gravite 2h]] despite having lower requirement, (45 attack and dungeoneering compare to 50 attack and strength for the Granite Maul) have higher crush and strength bonus.
