It is not as strong as its combat level suggests, but an [[antipoison potion]], preferably [[super antipoison|super]], is vital, as the snake is poisonous with damage starts in the nineties. It fights with [[Melee]] up close and [[Ranged]] from a distance, but it cannot detect [[Prayer]]. Thus, a player using protection prayers and antipoison can effectively avoid all damage.<br /> <br /> Level 40 {{Skill clickpic|Slayer}} [[Slayer]] is required to do the quest, and many players assume this applies to fighting the giant sea snake. However, several people have reported being able to fight it with a much lower slayer level. It was not listed in Jagex&#039;s Knowledge Base as a slayer creature requiring a slayer level to fight.<br /> <br /> The best way to defeat the snake is to attack it up close with melee, using a slashing weapon such as an [[abyssal whip]], as it is extremely vulnerable to slash attacks.
