The '''elysian spirit shield''' was released on [[15 September]] [[2008]] along with the [[Summer's End]] quest. It requires 75 [[Defence]] and 75 [[Prayer]] to wield. The shield is made by attaching together a [[blessed spirit shield]] and an [[elysian sigil]]. To do so requires 90 [[Prayer]] and 85 [[Smithing]]. In addition, you must have completed [[Summer's End]] to make or wear the elysian spirit shield. Also, players may instead ask [[Brother Bordiss]] to attach the two parts together for 1,500,000 coins after completing the [[Perils of Ice Mountain]] quest. On [[15 March]] [[2011]], (after the ring of wealth update) the sigils erroneously became a 100% drop from the Corporeal Beast. This was patched within the hour.

As of 28 February, the [[Squeal of Fortune]] offers a 'lucky' version of this shield as a possible reward.

==Special Bonus==
The elysian spirit shield has a 70''% chance of reducing the damage you receive by 25%''. Without consideration of its magical effect, the shield is nearly as powerful as the [[Dragonfire Shield]] in defensive bonuses. On the other hand, it lacks the +7 Strength bonus the [[Dragonfire shield]] grants.

The elysian spirit shield's special bonus makes this shield one of the strongest shields in ''RuneScape''. '''On average''', players wielding this shield will take ''17.5 percent'' less damage (25*0.70=17.5%). Wealthy players may find this shield useful for surviving the special attacks of [[Dragon claws]] and [[Dark bow]]s. In theory, taking (on average) 82.5% of the damage would mean that a player with a constitution level of 99 would really have to be hit with 1200 unreduced damage to be killed.

This shield has the exact same defence bonuses as the [[Divine spirit shield]]; however, their special effects differ slightly. While the Elysian has a ''70% chance of reducing damage by 25%'', the Divine shield has a ''100% chance of reducing damage by 30%'', at the cost of a few prayer points.

==Trivia==
*In classical Greek mythology, there is a realm in the Underworld called the [[WIkipedia:Elysium|Elysium Fields]], or the Elysian Plains. This is the final resting place for the souls of the heroic and the virtuous. However, this was only present in the Tartarus domain of the underworld.
*On 1 February 2010, the spirit shields appearances were changed to match their inventory pictures. The Elysian spirit shield's colour was changed to a vibrant cyan from a previous greyish blue. Previously the Elysian spirit shield and [[Spectral spirit shield]] were close to same shade of blue.
*At one point this item held the second highest value of any item in RuneScape, second only to the [[Christmas Cracker]].
