'''Elemental spells''' are the main [[Magic#Combat spells|combat spells]] of the [[Magic#Standard spells|standard spellbook]]. They are grouped into 5 categories of spells, each requiring a different combat rune (or runes, in the case of Surge spells) to cast. These are, from least to greatest power:

*[[Bolt spells]]
*[[Blast spells]]
*[[Wave spells]]
*[[Surge spells]]

For each category, there is a spell for each of the primary elements, each requiring a varying amount of [[elemental runes]] in addition to the combat runes. These are, in ascending power:

*[[Water spells]]
*[[Earth spells]]
*[[Fire spells]]

Under normal circumstances, there is a linear increase in power across all the spells; for example, the spell [[Fire Bolt]] is weaker than [[Wind Blast]], which in turn is weaker than [[Water Blast]]. This can vary depending on different factors, such as boosts from equipment (see [[chaos gauntlets]] for a good example) or an enemy's vulnerability to a certain element.
