Easter eggs were dropped during the 2002 Easter event on the 20 April 2002. Just like pumpkins, the eggs involved in the 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2007 Easter eggs are edible and they heal 120 lifepoints when consumed.

Players are strongly advised (as with pumpkins) to refrain from eating these holiday items, as they are rare and extremely valuable. Jagex has now added a warning message that appears if you attempt to eat it. Ghasts can rot Easter Eggs, and the player is not warned of this before entering the area.

Note that these items should not be confused with the Chocolate Eggs that were given as a reward during the 2008 Easter event, as they are two completely different items.

Easter eggs were often thought of as useless; and because of this fewer were kept, more were carelessly eaten and more were purposely eaten.

Various other eggs have made appearances in the 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Easter events, although these all differ from the actual "Easter egg" item that could be collected during the 2002 event.

In the former two appearances, the easter eggs were gifts to be given to other players and non-player characters, respectively.

In the Easter event, these used as bowling balls to crush chocolate kebbits into chocolate chunks. These eggs came in four colours. The examine text is "A rolling egg gathers no moss," which is a reference to the saying "A rolling stone gathers no moss". Eggs from the 2007 Easter Event are untrabable, or will have crumbled to dust as in 2008.

{|cellpadding="2" frame="box" align="right"

In the 2008 Easter Event, players had to find at least three eggs (from five or six that were hidden around the Falador area) to be given access to the Easter Bunny's rabbit hole. After the 2008 holiday event, all eggs still in a player's possession crumbled to chocolate dust.

The Easter Egg was worth about 70,000,000 coins at the re-release of free trade, rose to a peak of 210,000,000 coins in June 2011, and have since fallen as low as 50,000,000 coins. Within 24 hours of its peaking, the Easter Egg's price fell to 140,000,000 coins.

In the 2011 Easter Event, Jack Frost poked fun at the Easter Bunny, claiming that nobody even eats Easter Eggs - they just sit in players' banks. This is because Easter Eggs are discontinued and extremely valuable.
Trivia
* The Easter egg has recently received a graphical update and is now much less colourful.
* Before free trade was reintroduced, Easters along with Pumpkins and Disks were used as currency to trade up for Partyhats.

See also
* Chocolate egg, a reward from the 2008 Easter event.
* Easter ring, a reward item from the 2006 Easter event that allows players to appear to transform into an Easter egg when worn.
