The '''Dreaded Years of Tragedy''' was a period in the history of [[Gielinor]] which ran for around four years in the early [[Fifth Age]] (starting in year 94 approximately), where a group of [[Zamorak]]ians had moved into an abandoned [[Outpost]] to the north-west of the city of [[Ardougne]], and began to cause chaos in and around the city, such as theft and petty vandalism, as well as [[magic]]al tricks and charms.

Though the acts of the Zamorakians seem petty and humorous, great distress was caused to the people of Ardougne, and the conflict led to their calling on a [[Saradomin]]ist army to get rid of the Zamorakians, a battle which would later become known as [[The Great Battle]], in which all but one from each side were killed, and this in turn led to the founding of the [[Ardignas]] line of kings in [[Kandarin]], the most recent of which, [[King Tyras]] and [[King Lathas]], still rule to the present day.

While it is remembered as a time of sorrow for the people of Ardougne, the Dreaded Years of Tragedy are not often mentioned in the annals of the history of Gielinor, given that the affairs of Ardougne, being only a fledgeling city at the time, had little impact or effect on the rest of Gielinor.
