The Dragon dagger is the second strongest dagger available outside of Daemonheim and can be wielded by members who have at least level 60 Attack and have done the Lost City quest. It is surpassed by the Class 5 dagger in Stealing Creation. Dragon daggers are accurate, fast, and poisonable weapons that have a special attack called Puncture. This special attack consists of two quick strikes at an opponent, with increased accuracy and damage, using up 25% of the special attack bar. The dragon dagger is extremely popular among players of all combat levels. Because of its special attack, it is a popular weapon in PvP combat as it is cheap but very effective. The Stranger from Desert Treasure uses the dragon dagger because "it sings the song of death."

Prices for a dragon dagger vary according to its poison level. The unpoisoned dagger can be purchased in the Zanaris marketplace, from the travelling merchant Rasolo for 30,000 coins standing by the Baxtorian Falls and at Blades by Urbi in Sophanem for 30,000 coins, or at the Grand Exchange in Varrock. An un-poisoned dragon dagger is almost never seen, as it is mainly used because of its speed and ability to be poisoned.

Alternatively, players with a level 65 Hunter can hunt magpie implings in the Impetuous Impulses activity and potentially receive one as loot. The dragon dagger is also a drop from the revenant ork found in the Forinthry Dungeon as well as a drop from ivory statues. Poisoned Dragon Daggers can be obtained as a drop from K'ril Tsutsaroth and unpoisoned dragon daggers can also be obtained as a reward from an Elite Clue scroll.

With the release of the dragon claws the price of the dragon dagger has dropped. This is probably because the claws can hit harder (a +56 strength bonus compared to the +40 of the dragon dagger), are just as fast, and have an arguably better special attack. However, the sheer availability and much lower price of the dragon dagger remain a big selling point. Furthermore, dragon claws are two-handed and lack the ability to be poisoned. Theoretically, the claws can hit up to around 1102 damage under perfect conditions, which equals a 2204 with both specials, while under the same conditions, the dragon dagger can hit 560-560 four times for a total of 4480 life points from 4 specials, although this is extremely unlikely. However, in PvP, this damage would not be possible.

While dragon dagger has a higher maximum damage, it is much less accurate than dragon claws, making dragon claws useful in more situations.

As of 13 January 2009, the dragon dagger and all its poisoned variants are now split on CoinShare.

Special attack
The dragon dagger's special attack, Puncture, consists of two quick strikes at your opponent, with slightly increased accuracy and damage than normal. High-level players, if lucky, can hit over 900 with a single special attack. Due to the fact that the special only uses 25% of the special attack bar, even a high-level opponent could be killed in a matter of seconds. This special is considered one of the best special attacks of the more affordable weapons in the game, and players will sometimes carry a dragon dagger in addition to their main weapon to cause 4 quick hits and a considerable chance of inflicting poison on their foe. However, this is dependent on the player's attack level, with lower levels strongly decreasing the chance of a successful special, especially against people wearing high defence armour.

Because of what a dragon dagger can do, people like to use it to 1-item in PVP a lot, especially in places where multi-combat is allowed such as the obelisk at level 50 wilderness. Beware of such people who resort to this weapon, which can even catch a well-armoured person off guard. It helps to take out 1-itemers with dragon daggers to avoid being massively specced out.

The highest known unglitched special so far is 642-618 which was done using a castlewar brace, Turmoil, Vesta's chainbody and legs, berserker ring (i), dragon boots, an amulet of strength, and a dragonfire shield. There is video evidence of the same being done using Profound decorative equipment, an amulet of strength(t), dragon boots, berserker ring (i), Turmoil, and Overload. Under normal conditions (e.g., in player-versus-player combat) 560-560 would not be possible. In player-versus-monster scenarios, under perfect circumstances, the max possible special attack hit is 587-587

On 10 January 2011, Jagex had a hidden update where the special attack's damage would be dealt corresponding to the arm movements of your avatar, which basically means, you can't have both damages at the same time; It will be one after another. If used in PVP, it will give the player a chance to survive by eating food in the middle. (Confirmed: using the special attack on a monster then having a nearby aggressive monster attacking you, will only allow you to use one hit of the special, instead of 2.)

During the 2012 Easter Event there was a bug where the player could bug abuse and make himself/herself hit extremely high. The dragon dagger was a primary weapon for this bug and resulted in the loss of millions of gold. This was called "jullage."

Dragon daggers and dragon longswords can only be used after completion of the Lost City quest.
Trivia
*There appears to be a dragon dagger on the shop shelf at Reggie's shop in Fist of Guthix although he doesn't sell them.
*The dragon dagger (p++) used to be named "dragon dagger (s)." This is how it got the name "dds."
*Rasolo used to sell Dragon daggers for 60,000 coins each; this has been reduced to 30k after a few years.
*Despite the dragon longsword and Lost City being released on 27 February 2002, the dragon dagger was not added until 25 February 2004, making the dragon longsword the only reward for completing the quest upon its release.
*During that Easter event, in April 2012, there was a glitch that involved the Eggsterminator, which allowed anyone to constantly hit extremely high hits, using the special attack. Some people were reported to have hit higher than the usual Dragon Dagger max hit.
*On September 5th 2012, with the God Wars Dungeon update, Jagex implemented the character models from the Evolution of Combat beta. The new model currently holds the dragon dagger in a forward position.
*The dragon dagger is now held like a normal dagger instead of behind the body whereas previously, the character would hold it in a reverse grip with the blade facing their back. However the character still uses a downward stabbing motion while attacking, so it seems the character is hitting the enemy with the hilt of the weapon.
