A '''Crushed gem''' is an accidental product that is occasionally made when using a [[chisel]] on an uncut semiprecious [[Gems|gem]]. You can gain 5 exp when a gem is crushed in this way. As of [[27 January]] [[2009]], the player can also crush a gem deliberately by using a hammer on an [[Opal]], [[Jade (gem)|Jade]], or [[Red Topaz]].

This item is of very limited use, with the only application coming from the [[Fairytale I - Growing Pains]] quest to make the [[magic secateurs]] and [[Some Like it Cold]] to create the costumes.

Crushed gem used to be tradeable in the Grand Exchange, however this was recently removed. An easy solution is to purchase an [[opal]], [[jade]], or [[red topaz]] from the Grand Exchange and use a [[hammer]] on it.

You can sell the crushed gems to the general store in Shilo Village for 1 coin each, however, most people just drop them in favour of using the inventory space for gems.

==Trivia==
* The crushed gem's old graphics looked very similar to ashes.
* Previously, non-members could use a hammer on F2P gems to get a crushed gem, which was named 'Member's object'. This was later removed.
