The '''Combat beta contract''' is an item that was added to players' [[Inventory|inventories]] on [[1 June]] [[2012]]. It was a means for [[members]] to sign up for the [[Combat Beta]]. Upon clicking it and accepting the invite, the player is directed to the RuneScape website in a new window or tab, where they are prompted to enter their RuneScape username and password for verification. Once signed up, an invitation was sent to that person via email on June 26.

Full access to the beta was made automatically available to players who had been a member for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the release of the beta contract item, so these players were not given beta contracts. Many active users also received beta invites and were able to register and enter, along with the aforementioned members, totaling a maximum of 50,000 testers during the period in which it was limited as such. All members are now able to visit the Beta at this point, so the combat beta contract is obsolete.

If one logged in with a full inventory, removing an item and re-logging allowed the contract to show up. This item cannot be re-obtained if destroyed; however, players could still sign up on the RuneScape website if the contract was lost. Free-to-play players may receive this item although it is unusable. As it is a members item, it is banked using members slots. The contract beta contract is also the only members item available to players who have never been members.
