'''Charcoal''' is an [[item]] that is used in some [[quests]]. Most of the time it's used in quests for writing or drawing something on [[Papyrus]]. Charcoal can be obtained from the following places:

*Charcoal trees. Some [[dead tree]]s in the eastern deep [[Wilderness]] will give charcoal instead of [[logs]].
*Some stores, for example:
**[[Shilo Village]] (45 coins each; main stock; 10 September 2009)
**[[Tai Bwo Wannai]] general store.
**[[Gunslik's Assorted Items]] in [[Keldagrim]] (45 coins each).
*Searching through a Specimen tray in the [[Digsite]], with a [[Specimen jar]] in the player's inventory. (easiest and cheapest way)
*Searching [[Laura]]'s house in Past A in the [[Meeting History]] quest, though this cannot be taken out.
*Searching the Cupboard in the [[White Knight's Castle]] on the ground floor, south of the jail cell. (The drop trick can be used to obtain more than one at once.)
*Searching the crates just past [[50% Luke]] on [[Braindeath Island]].

Charcoal can be ground to [[ground charcoal]] with [[pestle and mortar]]. If a non-member has a pestle and mortar in their [[toolbelt]] they can still create ground charcoal, even though it is a members object.

Although this item is tradeable non-member item, it has hardly any uses for [[free-to-play]] players. Previously, some players tried to scam and sell this item in free-to-play worlds for a large sum of money. Because it was an unknown kind of item, other players thought it was a rare, and bought it for millions of coins. There is a rumour that it is possible to obtain charcoal by using coal on a range—this is incorrect. It is uncommon today to see people spreading this rumour. Also, some people have spread the rumour that you can gain charcoal by using ashes on a spade. This rumour is not true, you can not do this in any way shape or form.
