[[File:Cave crawler icon.png|left]]'''Cave crawlers''' are [[Slayer]] monsters that require level 10 slayer to kill. They drop a variety of [[Herblore]] related items and a few seeds. They are, however, poisonous, and have an extremely fast healing rate (approximately 10 life points per second) making them somewhat more dangerous than their [[combat level]] suggests.

When fighting the level 23 crawlers, a player shouldn't need much food; about 4-6 cakes (480 health-720 health healed) should do for a player with a decent [[defence]] level if an [[antipoison]] is consumed immediately upon being poisoned. The level 138 crawlers are a tougher challenge and require good healing abilities.

Cave crawlers are a great way to train herblore, dropping various herbs, vials of water, and some secondary herblore ingredients. Cave crawlers drop all the ingredients needed to make [[antipoison]] and [[Super antipoison]] potions ([[Unicorn horn dust]], [[Grimy marrentill]]/[[Grimy irit]] which must be cleaned, and a [[vial of water]]) in case you didn't bring any. The unicorn horn dust, however, is not a common drop.

Cave crawlers are a popular delicacy amongst the [[Dorgeshuun]] [[cave goblin]]s, who cut them into [[fillets|filets]] and serve them on a large platter. The poisonous parts of them are presumably removed. Consequently, they are weak to all bone weapons, including [[Zanik's crossbow]], which makes short work of most assignments.

In the quest [[Fur 'n' Seek]], a cave crawler hide must be collected and cleaned for the [[Odd Old Man]].

Level 138 Cave crawlers are also a great source of [[ancient effigies]]. Ideally the [[Pollnivneach Slayer Dungeon]] is the best place to obtain these.

==Locations==
*[[Fremennik Slayer Dungeon]] (level 23) - Recommended for slayer tasks and slaying in general. Many in one open space. (Fairy ring A-J-R)
*[[Lumbridge Swamp Caves]] (level 23) - Recommended for slayer tasks for the nearness of a bank and for the fact that they drop [[White berries]] and rare herbs quite frequently. You need a light source, and a tinderbox and spiny helmet (or slayer helmet) are recommended. There are four cave crawlers at this location, also they respawn very quickly. Note: A rope is required for first-time entry, unless you've started [[The Lost Tribe]] quest, in which case these caves can be accessed from the Lumbridge cellar. (The entry must be opened with a pickaxe the first time, but is just to the south after you enter the cave goblin tunnels.)

==Strengths and weaknesses==
Cave crawlers poison fairly often so it is advised to use [[anti-poison potion]] when fighting them. Their poison is fairly powerful and will initially cause 80 damage. Drinking a [[super antipoison]] prior to engaging in combat with them will '''prevent''' being poisoned for a good amount of time. Even high level players are suggested to bring at least one antipoison, as the poison can kill you if you're not careful. Conserve potions by equipping one's best defensive melee gear to minimise the poisonous hits taken. [[Super defence]]s can also help with this.

Note: If fighting cave crawlers in the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon, you can easily make antipoisons by obtaining the marrentill and vials of water as drops and killing a unicorn located near the entrance and using a pestle and mortar to grind the horn into unicorn dust.

The level 138 cave crawlers are in a multi-combat zone, and it is recommended that you use a [[dwarf multicannon]] and protect from [[melee]] to slay. However, a slayer task may use up to around 1500 cannonballs to complete using this method, and the prayer will not prevent poisoning. Level 138 Cave Crawlers are also considered large creatures, therefore using the [[Dragon halberd]] from various safespots between rocks in the [[Desert Slayer Dungeon]] is a good trick of killing them, without having to bank often.

Level 23 and 138 cave crawlers drop all of the required components for many potions such as [[Prayer potion]] ([[Vial of water]], [[Grimy ranarr|ranarr]] and [[snape grass]]) at a fairly regular rate, allowing players to stay in the area for longer. They also drop all the ingredients for both antipoison and super antipoison which is very handy considering the accuracy of their attacks, and therefore the frequency at which they cause poison. Some other useful potions made from their drops are [[Restore potion]], [[Strength potion]], [[Super strength|Super strength potion]], [[Super attack|Super attack potion]], [[Prayer potion]] and [[Super defence potion]].

There are several safe spots. Simply hiding behind any rock works.
