A '''Candle''' is a [[Firemaking]] item which can be purchased from the [[general store]] in [[Keldagrim]], the [[Candle Shop]] in [[Catherby]] (3 coins), the [[Tai Bwo Wannai]] or [[Shilo Village]] shops on [[Karamja]], other players, or the [[candle seller]] near the [[Lumbridge Swamp Caves]] entrance, who charges 1,000 [[coins]].

A player can also steal a candle from north of the altar in the [[Entrana]] church with level 20 [[Thieving]]. There is also a lit candle spawn on the ground floor of the [[Watchtower]] in [[Yanille]], second floor of the Sword Shop in [[Varrock]], or the [[Monastery (Kandarin)|Monastery]] south of Ardougne.

Candles need to be extinguished before they can be traded or sold.

Most candles are white, but there is also a [[black candle]] used during [[Merlin's Crystal]] quest, obtained from the Candle Maker in Catherby.

When lit with a [[tinderbox]], it is used to enter dark [[dungeon]]s like the [[Lumbridge]] Cellar cave and the [[Falador Mole Lair|Mole Dungeon]]. Lit candles will not stay lit forever and will eventually go out; it is advisable to always carry a tinderbox when using a candle for a light source.

Players who enter the [[Lumbridge Swamp Caves]] with candles should be careful, as they tend to ignite swamp gas in certain areas. The explosion will extinguish the candle, cause about 150 [[constitution|life points]] worth of damage, and leave players at the mercy of whatever lurks in the dark until the candle is relit. One can put a candle in an empty candle lantern frame to prevent this from happening.

Candles are also used in various quests such as [[Enlightened Journey]] and [[Enakhra's Lament]] .

Candles are also used to make [[origami balloon]]s, which is possible after the [[Enlightened Journey]] quest.
