A '''canary''' is a [[non-player character]] found in the [[dwarves|dwarven]] outpost on the top of [[Ice Mountain]]. The bird can be found in a cage in one of the dwarves' huts on the surface, along with several other [[dwarf|dwarves]] and [[Rolad]]. The canary cannot be interacted with, except through the [[examine]] option.<br />

The dwarves working in the [[Dwarven Mine]] use canaries to detect dangerous gases while [[mining]]. Canaries are sensitive to the gases, and so die as a result of exposure to them before they would be perceptible to the dwarves.<br />
