A '''Book of knowledge''' is a possible reward from the [[random event gift]]. It gives you experience equivalent to your level in a [[skill]] times 15. Compared with a [[genie lamp]], which only gives the experience equal to the level times 10, the book of knowledge is 50% more potent. Many people use this kind of book to level up skills that are hard or expensive to level up, such as [[summoning]], [[construction]], [[slayer]], [[prayer]], [[herblore]] and [[farming]]. For F2P players it is recommended to level up [[prayer]].

The Book of knowledge can also be obtained as a reward from [[Elemental Workshop III]], where it contains 4 charges, 2 for both [[Defence]] and 2 for [[Smithing]]. This version of the Book of knowledge gives 75 times your current level in experience.

If you try to bank it, you will receive the message "A magical force prevents you from banking this item!".

Before the [[random event gift]] was released, if a player still had a Book of knowledge in his or her inventory, it was very unlikely but not impossible for a player to receive the [[Surprise Exam!]] [[random event|random]]. However, the player would only retain one Book of knowledge.

Before the aforementioned update, if no inventory space was available, the book was left on floor. But once it was picked up it was impossible to put it down again. However the "Book on floor" phenomenon has been discontinued, as the random event gift will provide space for the book.

The Book of knowledge is presented as the tome of experience, since a player has proved his or herself capable of solving the multiple questions presented by the dragon [[Mr. Mordaut]].
