The '''Basilisk boss''' is an especially strong [[Basilisk]]. The Basilisk boss can only be fought once, during the [[Desert Slayer Dungeon (miniquest)|Desert Slayer Dungeon miniquest]], after [[Smoking Kills]].<br />

Killing the '''Basilisk boss''' gives the player a reward of 1,000 [[slayer]] experience. Contrary to popular belief, killing this boss while having the regular version assigned, '''does not '''give more slayer experience: 1,000 experience is the maximum. However, if the player's current task is basilisks, then the 15% combat bonus of the ([[Full slay helm|Full]]) [[Slayer helmet]], [[Black mask]], [[Hexcrest]] and [[Focus sight]] is in effect, as well as the Basilisk Boss counting toward the task.<br />

The recommended strategy for fighting the Basilisk boss is to use melee combat. Besides a [[Mirror shield]], [[Protect from Magic]] is strongly recommended, since its attacks are solely magic based and are quite accurate, often hitting 300 points of damage. Even using prayer, each attack still reduces one or two combat stats by one to three points. [[Super restore]] or [[Restore potion]] is very useful, although it is possible to replace them with [[Combat potion]] or [[Super attack]] and [[Super strength]] potions. Super restore has the benefit of restoring prayer as well as any lost combat stats, meaning that players would not need prayer potions.<br />

Also, it is recommended to bring a [[Dragon dagger]] ([[Super strong weapon poison|p++]]). Use the special attack in the beginning of the battle, then switch to a stronger weapon.<br />

Note that having a familiar during the battle can distract the basilisk into attacking it, but it only attacks the familiar with its bite attack.<br />

Defeating this boss with ranged is possible, but much more difficult than with melee. Bring plenty of prayer and restore potions.<br />

(Side note - if your prayer level is 45+, 2 prayer potions should be enough if you attack with crush. Having a high strength bonus is always an advantage. Make sure you keep watching your prayer level and keep your stats up. To make the most of it, use the restore first then use either Combat potion or Super set if you can afford it.
