The '''Ancient staff''' is a one-handed staff that, when wielded, increases damage done by magic spells by 10%. It requires 50 [[Attack]] and [[Magic]] to wield. This weapon requires the completion of [[Desert Treasure]] to be wielded.<br />

Before the [[Update:Changes to Autocasting Spells|2 September 2009]] update, the Ancient staff was the only way to [[autocast]] spells from the [[Ancient Magicks|Ancient]] spellbook. The staff may be bought once from [[Eblis]] for the price of 80,000 coins. It is also dropped by [[Mummy|Mummies]] in the [[Jaldraocht Pyramid]] and the [[Chaos tunnels]].<br />

This staff has the symbol of [[Zaros]] at its head, but despite this it does not give protection in the [[God Wars Dungeon]]. Due to its attack speed and good melee bonuses players may wish to use this as a crush weapon, particularly against foes that are weak to crush attacks, such as [[tortoise]]s. However, if a monster has high crush defence then it may be wiser to use a slashing or stabbing weapon.<br />

On [[13 March]] [[2012]], the [[Loyalty shop]] was updated with the option to recolour the Ancient staff for a cost of 6000 [[Loyalty points]]. The colours are green, blue, red, and yellow.<br />

==Trivia==<br />
*The Ancient staff is one of the only items with a negative prayer bonus, along with [[Zanik's crossbow]] and the [[Amulet of zealots]].<br />
*Critical hitsplats do not appear with the ancient staff as they normally would with most other attacking equipment. Whereas most other equipment (such as a [[Slayer Helmet]]) used to give a critical hitsplat every time the attack goes over the damage it would normally do, when using an Ancient staff, the critical hitsplat will not appear unless the maximum damage with the bonus is achieved, such as a hit of 220 with [[Fire Wave]].<br />
*During the quest Dream Mentor it is referred to as 'a staff of Zaros' when looking into Cyrisus' chest.<br />
