'''Ancient bones''' are obtained by speaking to [[Father Aereck]] in [[Lumbridge]] Church after completion of [[The Restless Ghost]] [[quest]]. If players have already completed the quest prior to these bones being added to the game, they can receive them simply by talking to Father Aereck again.

The five bones are obtained as a reward and each bone gives 200 [[prayer]] [[experience]] when buried.

Ancient bones are the best bones in terms of xp per bone at the moment, beating [[Frost dragon bones]] by 20 exp. However, only 5 can be obtained from the Restless Ghost quest. In addition, they cannot be ground at the [[Ectofuntus]], offered at a gilded altar, or have their experience boosted when buried after burning a [[Pyre ship]]. As a result, they are best treated either as a sort of [[experience lamp]].

The exp obtained from burying ancient bones is not doubled by the prayer exp bonus obtained from the October 2012 [[Festival of the Dead]] activity.

==Trivia==
*Originally, players didn't obtain Ancient bones as a reward for the Restless Ghost quest. Jagex added these bones to the reward to help players get used to burying bones.
*During the Bonus XP weekends of 12–14 March 2010 and 3 September-7 2010, Ancient bones could be buried for a maximum of 540 experience points, although quest experience rewards didn't multiply.
*If players try to grind Ancient bones at the Ectofuntus, they will get a message saying "You have no bones suitable for grinding" or if they use the bones on the hopper at the Ectofuntus it will say "These bones are too special to grind".
*If players try to offer Ancient Bones at an altar, they will get a message saying "You cannot offer these bones". This happens at any altar, not just those in a player-owned house.
*Unlike all other types of bones, POH servants will carry them.
*Players who completed the Restless Ghost quest before the release of Ancient bones will get the bones from Father Aereck even though they already got the prayer experience before, resulting in free experience for those players. Similar situations occur with other updated quests.
