The '''life rune''' was a [[Runes|magic rune]] developed for use in ''[[RuneScape Classic]]'', but was never implemented into the game. It was intended for use in early [[Summoning]] also called Necromancy, which at the time was intended to be part of [[Magic]], but was never released in ''RuneScape Classic'' due to the limits of the game engine.{{NamedRef|Summoning Concept}}

The life rune was a source of much debate among the ''[[RuneScape]]'' community for some time due to it only being in early versions in the game. However, many of the rumours surrounding it were dispelled in the Development Diary of November 2007{{NamedRef|Summoning Concept}}, in which Jagex explained its use.

Before the announcement of Summoning, the life rune was asked about by a player, who accurately described it, in the June 2007 [[Postbag from the Hedge]]. Currently, [[charm]]s or [[Spirit shards|shards]] can be considered the new Life runes.
